I am one of those computer users who uses software tools to their maximum level. Because of this nature, I try many different tools to do the same job before settling down to one or two.
I have been using GDesk on and off from the time it was available to the public. Few things are excellent in GDesk and few features are very ugly. The ugliest of all the GDesk features was its memory and hard disk consumption. There was 4-5 GB hard disk usage just after few months of GDesk usage. Thats not acceptable and there is no way you can control what's being cached and what's not.
So I finally had to say good bye to GDesk. Not that 4 GB is much these days. Its question of security and agility of the client itself.
Since the time I have started using this Dell Studio, I am with Vista, apart from occassional hiccups I have not had much problems with Vista. But, given a choice, I still prefer XP Professional to Vista Home Premium I am currently running.
So, I have started using Vista Side Bar. And my side bar has very small number of gadgets.
Wikipedia Search
An analog clock (actually I hardly see time there, it can go)
A twitter gadget
A Slide show gadget (This can go too)
A Dictionar Gadget.
A blogger gadget.
I think, despite the criticism, Vista Side bar is much more friendlier than GDesk, I still have to verify the memory costs of the Side bar though.
For now I will continue to use Vista Side Bar.
This post was actually written on Vista SIde bar Blogger Gadget. Otherwise ususally I use the excellent Windows Live Writer. WLW as its commonly refered :)
